SCANA Energy is Atlanta Phoenix Gas’s most affordable marketer pick for October 2026 among the four selected offers in this comparison. At 641 therms per year, its 18-month regular Fixed SAVE plan has a modeled five-year supply-and-service-fee cost of $2,338.59, averaging $467.72 a year or $38.98 a month. It combines a 53.9¢/therm introductory rate with a $4.95 monthly fee after eligible billing discounts.
This is our editorial selection using prices checked October 18. It is a published-price scenario, not a guaranteed five-year bill, a PSC award or a comparison of every Georgia marketer. AGL delivery charges and taxes are additional.
October 2026 five-year cost ranking
We compared SCANA Energy, Georgia Natural Gas, Gas South and Constellation for eligible residential AGL accounts in metro Atlanta. The Georgia PSC’s October pricing chart uses 641 therms for its annual typical-customer calculation; we use that benchmark here. It is a common comparison input, not a measurement of your home’s usage.
| Rank / selected marketer offer | Five-year total | Average per year | Average per month |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. SCANA Energy18-month Fixed · SAVE | $2,338.59 | $467.72 | $38.98 |
| 2. Georgia Natural Gas12-month Fixed · FEATURED | $2,600.22 | $520.04 | $43.34 |
| 3. Gas South12-month fixed | $2,694.35 | $538.87 | $44.91 |
| 4. ConstellationMetro Atlanta · 12 months | $2,904.15 | $580.83 | $48.40 |
SCANA’s modeled total is $261.63 below GNG, the next-lowest selected offer. The averages divide the unrounded five-year total by five years or 60 months. They are comparison averages; winter and summer bills vary.
Why SCANA wins this comparison
The monthly fee matters as much as the advertised therm rate. SCANA’s regular 18-month SAVE offer starts at 53.9¢/therm with a $6.95 gross monthly fee. The model subtracts $1 for paperless billing with a SCANA-supported recurring payment method and $1 for fixed-plan automatic renewal, leaving $4.95. Those options must be enabled and retained. See the official SAVE offer and the PSC billing-discount notes.
GNG’s selected FEATURED offer has a lower 49.9¢ introductory therm rate, but we use the published 12-month fee maximum of $8.99 as an assumption. That $4.04 monthly fee difference adds up to $242.40 over 60 months under the scenario. Your actual FEATURED fee must be confirmed with GNG.
SCANA’s promotion lasts 18 months. GNG’s selected promotion lasts 12 months. Both selected plans use 67.9¢/therm as the October published renewal input. Combining their different introductory prices and durations, SCANA’s modeled gas-supply cost is $19.23 lower over five years at this usage. Together, the fee and introductory-period differences explain the $261.63 modeled gap.
The lowest SCANA headline rate is not the selected plan. Its 18-month Fixed Plus SAVE offer is 48.9¢/therm but has a $9.95 gross monthly fee, or $7.95 after the same discounts. The $3 fee difference versus regular Fixed offsets the 5¢ therm saving below 720 therms a year. At our 641-therm benchmark, regular Fixed is cheaper. See how rate-versus-fee break-even works.
How we calculated the five-year average
Assume 641 therms every year, spread evenly for comparison. SCANA uses 53.9¢/therm for the initial 18 months, then the October published regular 18-month rate of 67.9¢/therm for the remaining 42 months. The discounted $4.95 fee is held constant.
- Initial 18 months: (641 ÷ 12 × $0.539 + $4.95) × 18 = $607.35.
- Remaining 42 months: (641 ÷ 12 × $0.679 + $4.95) × 42 = $1,731.24.
- Five-year total: $2,338.59; divided by five = $467.72 per year; divided by 60 = $38.98 per month.
Calculations retain full precision until display. The 53.9¢ introductory rate is not assumed to continue for five years. Future renewal prices and billing-discount availability are unknown; we hold October inputs constant to make the comparison reproducible. SCANA’s published residential plans supply the current renewal reference.
| Marketer | Initial price / fee | Initial term | Published renewal input / fee | One-time credit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SCANA Energy | 53.9¢/therm $4.95 | 18 months | 67.9¢/therm $4.95 | None |
| Georgia Natural Gas | 49.9¢/therm $8.99 (assumed) | 12 months | 67.9¢/therm $8.99 | None |
| Gas South | 67.0¢/therm $9.95 | 12 months | 67.0¢/therm $9.95 | $50 SAVE50, if eligible |
| Constellation | 59.9¢/therm $6.95 | 12 months | 83.9¢/therm $5.95 | None |
For Constellation, the new-customer Metro Atlanta offer changes to the published standard same-term plan in the model. Gas South’s $50 SAVE50 credit is deducted once, with eligibility and payment timing to be confirmed. The GNG $10/month bonus is an alternative to its FEATURED therm discount and is not added to this discounted rate.
What about GNG’s Greener Life reward?
Eligible GNG customers can receive a 5¢/therm reward for 12 bills and a first-year waiver of the optional Greener Life service charge. At 641 therms, that is a $32.05 first-year reward, bringing GNG’s initial average month to $32.97 versus SCANA’s $33.74. GNG can therefore be cheaper during the introductory year.
If Greener Life remains enrolled after the first year, its current $4.99 monthly charge adds $239.52 over the remaining 48 months. GNG’s modeled five-year total then becomes $2,807.69. If an eligible customer cancels the optional service after the free year, with no later add-on charge and the first-year reward retained, the illustrative total is $2,568.17. SCANA still costs less in both of these cases. Reward eligibility and cancellation timing must be confirmed with GNG; see official Greener Life terms.
Method and limits of the selection
To match our comparison tool, we consider verified fixed terms of 6, 12, 18, 24 and 36 months, website offers enabled, and eligible bill credits included. For each marketer we select the offer with the lowest initial average monthly cost, using the lower five-year cost to break a tie. We then rank those four selected offers by five-year total. This is not an exhaustive search for the lowest possible five-year strategy across every plan or repeated switching between marketers.
The main table leaves optional Greener Life off; the separate section above shows its effect. We use the maximum fee in a published range, then apply verified conditional billing discounts. GNG’s FEATURED fee is an explicitly unconfirmed personalized input. Prices, regional eligibility and actual fees may differ at enrollment.
AGL delivery charges, taxes, connection charges, late fees and early termination fees are excluded. This is a marketer-cost comparison, not your full utility bill. SCANA’s 18-month SAVE plan carries a $200 early termination fee; the scenario assumes each contract is completed. Removing both SCANA billing discounts for all 60 months adds $120, raising its modeled total to $2,458.59. Usage changes, loss of eligibility, future renewal prices or a different plan strategy can change the result.
